An evening full of creative interventions in public space in Lebanon.
On Tuesday March 6th ‘Pearls for Lebanon’ was organised at De Balie in Amsterdam. Author Abdelkader Benali and the new director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute Ole Bouman held a warm speech to convince representatives of Dutch businesses, government and cultural sector of the value of their involvement in the projects presented by a team of Lebanese architects, urban developers, designers and artists. All projects aim to reinforcing public space in Lebanon. The projects are, among others, setting up an arts centre (Studio Beirut), an international architectural competition for an assignment in Lebanon and constructing a website to stimulate a dialogue between Lebanese and Dutch youngsters. Under the impassioned guidance of ‘auctioneer’ Chris Keulemans the Lebanese projects were linked to Dutch partners who were asked to provide their expertise and financial means to realise the plans.
